Some people consider that replacement of existing system of education by using workforce preparation programmes can assist in tackling these issues. While partial update of young-specialist preparation might be useful, it should not be viewed as a complete alternative for current education process.
To start with, supporters of school-to-work programmes claim that such transition permits students explore the varios career opportunities and develop work-related skills and, as a result, they can hit the ground running when they start working. It is probably true to some extent. However, a successful career in the huge majority of occupations depends on serious academical attainments. For instance, under no circumstances are surgeons without profound theoretical knowledge allowed to operate their patients. From this it becomes evident that academic skills are of paramount importance for the preparation of future employees.
Another reason in favor of focusing on participation in workforce is the significant reduction of learning time and, thus, the deacrise of education fee. These goals can be achieved by using apprenticeships as a way to convey experience and knowledge from elder professionals of undertakings to younger ones. Definitely, it is a reasonable point of view. Nonetheless, it is a well-known fact that people will study better if they are supported by well-trained and well-qualified personal. Hence, it is unlikely that individuals without a proper pedagogical background can afford to teach young generation as well as a more qualified staff.
In conclusion, there are both positive and negative issues associated with the workforce participation as a part of educational process. It is best to take a balanced approach. Had the school-to-work programmes been added into curriculums of educational institutes, everyone would have benefit.
